I want to start by saying that I have permission from my other boys to share these clips. They were not taken out of shame; they are snippets from larger videos that family members were recording the day we found out we lost our son and their big brother. My son, Alex, was 22 years old and living in a different state with family—family I was supposed to be able to trust, and family he should have been able to trust in a moment of crisis. Instead of anyone reaching for life-saving intervention while he was crying out about what he was going to do, they chose to pick up their phones and record him on Snapchat. We are now left with a video of Alex taking his life. I heard his last screams, and then I heard his body drop. He was left alone on the floor of a locked room for 14 hours before anyone checked on him. They had ample warning to get him support. He had put a gun to his head four days earlier, and I was not even notified. He was struggling deeply and trusted the wrong people When you take your life , your pain does not end, it transfers.
