“If it works, don’t touch it.” Every IT and networking technician has heard this one. But in the real world, things are not always that simple. A network may be working today, but that does not necessarily mean the configuration is optimal, secure, documented, or ready for future changes. The challenge is knowing the difference between fixing a problem, improving a system, and changing something simply because you can. One small change to a switch port, VLAN, IP address, firewall rule, DHCP setting, or cable can turn a perfectly normal day into hours of troubleshooting. 😂 That is why experienced technicians do not just ask, “Does it work?” They also ask. “Why does it work this way?” “What depends on this configuration?” “What happens if I change it?” “Can I restore it if something goes wrong?” Sometimes, the best technical decision is to leave a working system alone. Other times, the right decision is to improve it, but with a backup, proper documentation, testing, and a rollback plan. #Networking #ITSupport #NetworkEngineering #SystemAdministration #ITTechnicians
