As the pilot in command, I want full authority over all of my inputs I will dictate what I need and when! I am not concerned about protecting the aircraft. I am concerned about lives, most importantly mine and the passengers ,if I need full power and it exceeds the limits of the engine then so be it that’s what I’m requesting and I want it NOW!!! the powers that be that checked me out and released me to fly this aircraft trust me so let me fly it.

This is not totally true, if you firewall the trust levers in an Airbus you will get about 120% of rated power!

Humans are the problem … despite our huge egos, the majority of aircraft incidents/accidents are attributed to human error. The Airbus FADEC will give you the maximum power and you can rely on it since limitations will not be exceeded … the Boeing plan is a little bit more power now and cross your fingers as to how long that will last … not a plan. Modern aircraft engines are already operating near their limits … I respect their limitations.

I would rather the engines not blow up because the pilot's being excessive. If maximum safe thrust wasn't enough, I think Airbus would have more problems by now.

Mix them. Automatic protection with a pilot override. It prevents accidental exceeding of tolerance, but provides pilots with full control in an emergency.

Everyone talking about “human error” being a disadvantage for the Boeing philosophy is forgetting that the control programs and computers Airbus uses are ALSO made and programmed by humans. There’s no way to get the human out of the loop entirely so who do you trust more? Your pilot, or some programmer?

That’s incorrect. B737NG EECs prevent over-boost. Both manufacturers provide engine protection at full thrust if both engine computers are functioning normally.
