@thegirderclub: A 1913 Excelsior 1000cc is cranked up at the Sunbeam Motorcycle Club Pioneer Run. The 1000cc V Twin Excelsior was released in 1911 by the Chicago born manufacturer. The speed of the motorcycle was demonstrated in 1913 when Lee Humiston hurtled around the one-mile Playa Del Rey board track (a test that was not for the faint hearted!) in LA on his Excelsior to cover 100 miles at an average of 88mph. The rider also covered a flying mile in 36 seconds dead - this equates to 100.002mph, making Humiston the first motor-cyclist to do a ton on a conventional motorcycle. A testament to this fine machine. Thank you to the team at the Sunbeam Motorcycle Club for having us along to the event.
