“PANDANGGO SA ILAW“ Synopsis / Background of Pandanggo sa Ilaw Pandanggo sa Ilaw is a popular Filipino folk dance that originated from Lubang Island, Mindoro. The name comes from the Spanish word “fandango,” a lively dance accompanied by fast-paced music. In the Filipino version, dancers perform while skillfully balancing three lighted oil lamps—one on the head and one on each hand—showcasing balance, grace, and control. Traditionally, this dance was performed during evening festivities, town celebrations, and after a successful fishing trip. The lamps originally served to light the path at night, and the dance movements imitate the gentle, swaying motion of people walking with lights in the dark.
