If I was about to start maternity leave again, here's what I'd do differently... ❤️ Looking back at my first maternity leave, there are SO many things I'd change. Because honestly? Nobody really prepares you for how emotionally and financially challenging maternity leave can feel sometimes. Trying to make SMP stretch. Watching the months disappear. And quietly worrying about having to leave your baby before you're ready 💔 So here are 3 things I definitely wouldn't do if I was heading into maternity leave again in 2026 👇 1️⃣ I wouldn't assume SMP would somehow stretch far enough on its own. Because every month felt like a balancing act. And I hated having to constantly check my bank account before agreeing to anything. 2️⃣ I wouldn't leave it until the end of maternity leave to think about creating extra income. Because once you're back at work, exhausted and juggling childcare, it feels SO much harder to learn something new. Having maternity leave gave me little pockets of time to learn around naps and evenings ❤️ 3️⃣ I wouldn't keep telling myself I'll start when the timing feels better. Because honestly? There is NEVER a perfect time as a mum. Life will always feel busy. You'll always have reasons to wait. And nothing changes unless you decide to change something. Us mums figure out routines, survive sleepless nights, look after tiny humans and somehow keep everything ticking over on barely any sleep 😂 Learning a new skill honestly isn't the impossible part. And for me? That skill ended up being digital products and Canva. Things like planners, templates and invitations ❤️ At first, I genuinely convinced myself there was no way it would work for me. But little by little, I started learning, building confidence and figuring things out around normal mum life. Fast forward to now and it's helped me: ✨ Extend my maternity leave ✨ Massively reduce my working hours ✨ Clear debt ✨ Travel more with my girls ✨ Finally feel like I can breathe again And honestly? If I could give the old me one piece of advice it would be this: You do NOT need to have everything figured out. You just need to take the first step ❤️ If you'd like to see exactly how I got started as a complete beginner, DM me INFO and I'll explain everything 🥰 Make sure to follow so we can message each other and for more mumlife earn from home options x #maternityleaveuk #matleaveuk #ukmums #newmumuk #sidehustlemumuk
