Had a very sweet bully of some sort that I caught and called animal control to come get (was in rough shape and extremely hard to contain) and he bit thru my thick nylon leash in 2 chomps, wasn’t being aggressive to me but seeing that made the animal control officers go get catch poles because it’s also just a more secure method of “containment” when it comes to animal with powerful jaws and sharp teeth that can get through lesser strength/ easier to access leads. (They weren’t worried at ALL he was gonna bite a person, I had my fingers all in his mouth right before that and he wasn’t at all upset about it, it was how I showed them he was genuinely chill just not a fan of containment) catch poles are amazing tools and can be the difference in a catch, a horrible injury, or an escape.

This!! People forget how terrifyingly strong and dangerous dogs can be. I work at a training facility for aggressive dogs, and many times I have been lunged at by HUGE dogs. If I didn’t have a catch pole with me, I’m sure I would’ve been seriously injured by these dogs by now. It’s important to understand that there are appropriate scenarios for defending yourself against these animals, and this one to me is a no brainer that he needed to defend himself and did so very appropriately

People always forget how dangerous dogs can be, I've been bitten and have permanent chronic pain from a boxer. All dogs can be dangerous, so you have to be cautious no matter what. Also he handled this perfectly
