@woundedfam: Just a little bit about my story. I’m the oldest of five, and in 2011 I became the guardian of my two younger brothers, who were just 13 and 14 at the time. They’re grown now, but a experience that changed my life. In 2016, I got a call from the state asking me to take in my nephew. (Now 9) He was placed in a safety plan that eventually turned into guardianship. Then in 2022, I got another call..this time for my twin nephews. We welcomed them into our home, and in January of this year, we finalized their adoption. I speak out about kinship because it is lonely. It’s a hard journey, one filled with love, loss, responsibility, and resilience. And I want people to know they’re not alone.
