*TRIGGER WARNING - Footage of a Tonic-Clonic Seizure* For us as a family, these seizures are some of the worst we have experienced so far. Connor has experienced plenty of them, and they have varied in length, the longest we have experienced was 45 minutes and this was terrifying to witness. A tonic-clonic seizure is a type of seizure that affects the whole brain and body. It usually begins with the tonic phase, where the person suddenly loses consciousness, their body stiffens, and they may cry out as air is forced from the lungs. Breathing can become irregular, and they may fall if standing. This is followed by the clonic phase, where the body begins to jerk rhythmically as muscles tighten and relax. During this phase, the person may bite their tongue, drool or foam at the mouth, and lose control of their bladder or bowels. After the seizure ends, the person enters the post-ictal phase, which can involve confusion, exhaustion, headache, muscle soreness, or sleep.
