spiderman becoming the self-insert character for the average guy is just sad 😭 he was an arrogant nerd, who was good looking, who was bullied because he was the type of kid wholl make fun of the dumber kids, who kept mentioning that they ratherd be with their uncle and aunt, who realised that the powers that he was given should be used responsibly, who makes fun of his villains because hes still an arrogant nerd

You’re right , Peter is meant to be pretty handsome (and have a fiery/sharp personality) and and his average-ness is supposed to come from his civilian lifestyle; he goes to school, works a job, has emotional conflicts w family, friends, etc. i.e. things that we would also have.

ngl this is kind of a weird hill to die on. why be so against the evolution of spiderman as a character? for what sake? to kill the generational momentum spider-man's "self insertness" has given him? while yes he has staples, i think it's a good thing that there's no way peter parker "should" be. "anyone can wear the mask" is infinitely better than "only this specific white dude wears the mask"

Also I think that the ones you put up there as “Not looking like Peter at all” are not really a flaw on the artist’s side, but rather Marvel Editorial pushing for Peter to be young to keep his Grown ass relatable 😭

ngl they don't look all that different to me it's mostly different art styles more than anything other than the eyebrows being slimmed, but Peter being average simply works better since he's meant to be the everyman him being more handsome in age also works bc it shows he's bettering himself but in HS it makes perfect sense for him to look like average and unremarkable

It’s annoying cuz artist/writers and mostly fans project their insecurities or traits on Peter and physically and in his life, Peter does encompasses the Everyman archetype but not to the level people want him to. It’s because of this why Peter’s been so heavily mischaracterized or just simply look so different.

I think what makes Peter stand out the most is his strong facial features like his jaw and nose paired with his hair and bangs in the front while everything else is pushed back, that defines his entire look to me and people forget bro isn’t ugly ✌🏾😭 he was literally asked to model or consider modeling bc he is attractive and the way he carries himself is attractive to others as well, his nerdy charm when u know him is meant as attractive to others and when you don’t know him he has something mysterious about him as shown in the early college days with Gwen wondering so hard abt who he is, Peter js da goat but ppl forget that bc current 616 has been buns in terms of designing and writing his character 💔💔
