Your number one choice (at the end) is my current favorite to use at the lab where I work, but it only likes regular paper. Not a good choice for waxy labels, but I usually use an ultra fine sharpie for that, especially if it needs to take a trip in the autoclave.

I love the Pilot G2 but only in the 0.7, the 0.5 is too scratchy and the 1.0 takes forever to dry and smears way too easily. The 0.7 is just right for me. Never tried the 0.38.

Try the Bic Gelocity 0.7mm. It is the absolute best. I’ve tried all of these and nothing compares to it. After hours and hours of nonstop note taking the only one that doesn’t hurt my fingers is the Bic Gelocity.
