I feel Nancy did this to Steve in season 2 which is why she’s in a miserable relationship with Johnathan. I feel she felt guilty when she looks at Steve because she put her friend in the situation that got her k*lled and so she pushed him away to get away from the guilt. #StophurtingSteve

like he probably has nightmares abt losing steve the same way. detachment is a defense mechanism and a safety precaution. when the unthinkable happens, you now know it might happen again. his demeanor makes perfect sense. but then again i have experienced traumatic loss

I feel like killing Steve would be so predictably sloppy of the writers and would destroy Dustin’s ending in the process. I hope this ends with Steve having the opportunity to be everyone’s hero like he’s always wanted, but passing it up when Dustin begs him to stay back so someone else makes the final sacrifice. Dustin would have to come to terms with everything and Steve would ironically complete his redemption/hero arc by realizing that “redemption” is an internal, gut-instinct shift to do good rather than just doing the thing everyone expects the hero to do.
