bet it was a family member or colleague that started to ask questions about not seeing op in holiday pictures etc. I don't think it was because of money since he said he'd put her into a local private school

Looked at the post on Reddit. After his dad's email he went and talked to his step-mom who went to the dad and said it was a dealbreaker. The dad got angry and said he can go back to school but he wishes he had trusted him. He "hopes he can deal with the consequences of his choices."

He works all the time, so he was trying to keep the daughter home to be raised by the stepmom. She was basically threatening to leave him so that he’d have to take care of his own daughter.

just because he grew a conscience in the last 6 months doesnnt mean it erases the hurt and harm he did to his own flesh and blood. Yes the step-mom is horrible but he allowed it to be.

I don’t think they’re lying about wanting to be closer to their family. They mentioned that it seems like their siblings have been told to avoid them. (That seems to me like they’d like to have a relationship with them)

I think it more about reputation and retirement. I do sorta experience this kind of thing. and when I hit adult, they shift behavior and act all nice, hinting about taking care of them when they get old. so it more about wanting op to take care of the certain situation and keep op trap. but luckily stepmother "help" with that.
