Shelling disrupts the ecosystem in multiple ways. Shells are used by invertebrates like hermit crabs. Shells are also what breaks down to form sand. They are calcium carbonate which is an essential mineral for the ocean. In fact, we are mining more sand than the world can produce. If you are a good person and care for the environment you will stop shelling.
