E collars aren’t even legal in Sweden. Neither are crates with doors. We do training just fine ☺️

my thought always is on that topic - how do people possibly train their dogs when ecollars and prongs are forbidden by law? Im from such a country and my dogs need a recall that has to be fix because i use them for hunting purposes and even "private" owners can do it. the thing is people that use such things are not really interested in training with their dog because they want an easy way for it instead of learning to communicate with their dog and fulfill the needs of them to have a meaningful bond

a big problem to me personally that i see is people who dont even try training their dogs without aversive tools first. its always puppies whove gotten a little stubborn imemdiately put on a prong and a ecollar. the second training gets hard, prong and ecollar. your dog is pulling? we’re gonna put it on a prong collar instead of trying anything else. its so constant to the point ive seen maybe four trainers on tiktok who dont use aversive methods straight off the bat, especially with high drive working breeds like mals and shepherds.

the dif is that is the recall fails the person w the e-collar has a way to literally touch their dog to break that prey drive where those without do NOT have that advantage

1) every dog is different - some need an ecollar no matter how good you train them. 2) an ecollar can be used multiple ways, not just to shock the hell out of them. They can vibrate and ring too, which are amazing ways to “communicate” with your dog even from a distance. 3) no matter how good you are, you can’t train every dog perfectly. Some work well with positive reinforcement only, but some need negative too (and again, I’m obviously not talking about beating them or anything like that)

just because someone uses an ecoallr doesn't mean they are dependent on a tool. Both my dogs can go with or without their ecollars I just like to have it in some situations as a fail safe but barely need it anymore

My dogs learn recall with a clicker treats from 8 weeks . All have impeccable recalls. They learn heel off lead first, as a position on my body that’s rewardable. As operant learners, they will choose to heel or recall.

So e-collars are considered cruel in EU. So I have never seen one. I have seen my puppy walk into a electric horse fence wire and that was pretty scary. How many volts and amps are in those collars?

I think this is actually super dangerous. “Not dependent on a tool”. My dogs have fantastic recall but I’m not going to risk it. They aren’t robots. I’m honestly fairly tired of the rhetoric “just train recall”. Well yeah, but I also have a fail safe because my dog isn’t a robot. She’s a hunting dog with a super high drive. If I’m in state game lands hunting with my dog, I’m not risking her deciding that a deer is more rewarding than I am.

ian dunbar said something along the lines of: if you have the correct timing and the know-how to use it, you dont need an e-collar with your dog😇 is you can time a correction that well, you can also use positive reinforcement with the same result.

This! If i was able to train my rottie (a very easily distracted breed) when i was 14 without any tools just a normal collar leash and treats and positive praises im sure half them adults using tools can do it too 🤣 (she was 6 months here) we are now almost 19&4

This is not the war we should be having. Methodology is preferentially and contextual to each dog and owner’s life style. Both of yall pipe down and fight the real fight which is ending for profit-designer dog breeding, puppy mills, rescues that don’t know what their doing, and people that call themselves trainers but obviously don’t have well trained dogs like both these clips^ and have publicly used compulsion methods or even worse.
