@ladyspinedoc: Case Study 206 – Japanese Brain Mystery Our patient presents with subtle neurological changes…but the real story lies in the vessels you can’t see on first glance. A rare condition, more common in Japan than anywhere else in the world, shifts the brain into survival mode - creating a vascular maze that tells its own story. What do you think is happening here? Full case review drops tomorrow. #SundayCaseStudy #Ladyspinedoc #casestudy206

could this be linked to the radiation aftermath from the bombs? maybe epigenetic transmission?

My daughter is experiencing every symptom you mentioned. She has already seen two neurologists, and they still haven’t been able to find the cause. She’s only 13, so this has been very concerning for us. I’m definitely interested in learning more about the possible diagnosis.

Moyamoya. I was diagnosed in 2006. Had a unilateral STA-MCA bypass. Checked every year for progression to the other side

As soon as you said Japan, neurological condition I guessed Moyamoya because I had a patient diagnosed with this and it was what I did my research paper on that semester.

My mom had this. Her doctor even asked her if we had any distant Japanese relatives because in his entire 35 year career, he had never seen a Caucasian patient with it.

I just learned about Moya Moya this week when I was looking up something else. I’m not a doctor 😆 but I knew as soon as you described it.

Moyamoya is a Japanese phrase (kinda like an onomatopoeia, but for more than just sounds) that means cloudy/smokey, named for the cloud like appearance on imaging.
