It may not be alternator. They are expensive so that's last option. Try your voltage regulator OR you have a power draw meaning something is pulling far too much power. If you do have to replace the alternator- buy a cheap aftermarket one off partsgeek. Never had an issue with one

I normally just disconnect the negative battery terminal while the car is on, if it dies the alternator is bad if it runs the battery is bad. Just me?

13.4v is totally fine. start with replacing the battery and doing a parasitic draw test. my money would be that you have parasitic draw somewhere.

Honestly the battery is probably ok, just let it be on a tender/charger and it should be fine. Put a new alternator in it, and you should be golden. 10.4 obviously isn’t great, but it’s not terrible and could definitely be saved. If the battery was below 8, then generally it can be tough to save it
