not sure how else to phrase this but: if you wouldn’t give it to someone without the fancy packaging/branding, don’t give it at all. i’ve seen people recommend “luxury” laundry detergent as a gift this year - that is not a universal gift at ALL.

I hate dupe gifts because now it feels wasteful for me to go out and buy the version I originally wanted. I would’ve rather received something else. If I ask for a specific item there’s probably a well researched reason as to why that item is for me. Not gonna be heartbroken if I don’t get it. I’ll just buy it myself when I can if I want it that bad
