Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: Late on December 20, 2023, around 11 p.m., Union Township officers Bryan Sousa and Randy St. Louis saw a 2002 Toyota Camry lurch to a stop right in the middle of Morris Avenue near Caldwell Avenue. A 2024 Subaru Outback sat idling behind it. The Camry looked broken down. The officers approached the driver. She was 19-year-old Breanna Cherkis. The Subaru driver told Officer Sousa her story. They had stopped at a red light on Morris and Caldwell. Breanna's car did not budge when the light changed. It seemed like she fell asleep at the wheel. The Subaru tried to pass on the left. Then Breanna swerved left too. They crashed. Breanna could not remember details. Officers thought alcohol or drugs might be involved. They ran field sobriety tests. Officer Teon Freeman did the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Lack of Convergence, and Modified Rhomberg Balance checks first. Officer Sousa followed with Walk and Turn, then One Leg Stand. She failed them all. The crash clues, her odd signs, and bad test results led to arrest. Police charged her with driving under the influence. They towed her car for a 12-hour hold under John's Law. At the Union Township station, Officer St. Louis read the standard statement for drivers. Breanna agreed to a breath test. Her Alcotest showed 0.00% BAC. Officers still smelled trouble. They asked for a urine sample. She said yes. After processing, her mom picked her up. She signed the liability warning for Breanna. A court date loomed. Citations hit Breanna hard: Operating under the influence (39:4-50) Careless driving (39:4-97) Traffic on marked lanes – unsafe lane change (39:4-88b) Delaying traffic (39:4-56) Failure to wear seat belt (39:3-76.2f) Her urine test later proved positive. It found Fluoxetine, Methorphan, and THC-COOH, a pot byproduct. Court on March 11, 2025, dropped the DUI charge. Breanna pled guilty to careless driving, unsafe lane change, no seat belt, and blocking traffic. Her license got yanked for 30 days.
