To be clear. The Problem is not the Swiss Banks but the fact that you have US Citizenship. Swiss banks got fried multiple times by the US and they have ridiculous laws for US citizens having accounts outside of the US.

UBS has literally one guy in the whole country that handles account openings for Americans. It was so difficult to get an appt with him, but I finally made it happen. 🙏🏽 😂

Former banking compliance officer here- Swiss bank secrecy laws are some of the strongest in the world and the amount of info the US requires on foreign accounts held by citizens is diametrically opposed to that.

As an american who lived in switzerland, i don’t blame the swiss banks. Why would you want to do extra paperwork for the USA. USA and brunei are thr only 2 countries that demand citizens pay taxes from abroad. Us govt jacked up thr cost to renounce bc so many are fed up

The US arrested a Swiss banker on holidays in the US. For failing to follow us regulations. Because his bank did business with US citizens in Switzerland. Not in the US, in Switzerland. 😅

The Swiss banks don't comply with FATCA because a huge part of their business is foreign money laundering and sanctions avoidance, two businesses that Americans regularly engaged in by using Swiss banks. Since many Swiss banks find these regulations "burdensome" you will only find some wealth managers who require significant assets that will work with Americans. We saw this play out in 2023 with the Credit Suisse Tuna Bonds Scandal.

As a Swiss citizen, opening a UBS Bank account in Switzerland was not easy. They asked me whether I am an American citizen, hold a Green Card, or have lived in the USA for more than six months. I was shocked, and they told me that due to U.S. compliance requirements and potential penalties, they prefer not to deal with U.S. persons.
