Aging scientist here— your muscle and your brain are THE most important organs for aging well. And strength training, coincidentally, is good for both!

This + adequate nutrition!! Training is useless if you aren’t getting enough calories!

saw a girl on here who got in a huge car accident - the medic said the only reason she survived/wasn’t paralyzed was because of her muscle mass around her neck/spine. i’m 28 and started lifting this year - never stopping!

We are meant to do a bit of all of it - cardio, strength, mobility, flexibility. It’s literally science.

All of the sudden it’s like we’ve abandoned lifting. It took years to get women there, and now everyone wants this Pilates princess body and they’re rejecting anything with weights. It’s insane.

I think people are hearing that their preferred exercises are useless, which is not the case. It’s just not going to give them the same benefits of strength training.

The amount of lean body mass you have as you age is a HUGE determinant of your risk of mortality, how well you recover from traumatic event (ex falls), risk of malnutrition…lift the weights and EAT!!!! (Ps im a dietetic intern)

This is gunna be a stupid question, I have lost motivation/structure for lifting weights. So now I follow along with Caroline Girvan workouts. Am I still getting the same benefits as lifting heavy? Cause I don’t use as heavy weight as I normally do with her workouts. But I am still getting to failure. The weight range is anywhere from 5-70 pound depending on the exercise.

I started lifting almost two years ago. I had almost no upper body strength, and now I can do push ups and pull ups. I'm amazed what a difference it made in my body composition!

I’m 30 and everyone around me complains about all their different aches and pains and I truly do believe that all of my lifting, running & yoga combined are what keeps me feeling good! Like I’m never in pain and I stay healthy and injury free even though I’m constantly pushing my body!

Yes! I was lifting for years before I started running and I prioritize lifting over having high volumes of running even when training for a race for this reason. People really don't realize how breaking a bone as you age can fr lead to you dying like you mentioned!

you have sufficiently activated my anxiety. I am grateful for this and also terrified. I need to start lifting twice a week very heavy. I don’t know where to begin, but I’ll figure this shit out.

With GLPs trending this is even more critical. Everyone is chasing the smallest version of themselves just to leave them the weakest version.

100000% agree with you and Kelly. I really wish more people would consider these point you made. I’m 34yo powerlifter and it’s shocking to see people my age giving up on anti-aging other than their face routine.
