Then factor scenarios of speed, gaps-distance, and behavior/aggression of a bear or a human(s). Obviously, SA on, avoidance, and outdoor skillset are most important. Fyi, human mace is designed specifically for humans. Its a more directed stream (less chance of incapacitating yourself) and has a more gel like consistency so it sticks to the victims face and body which bear spray does but not anywhere near as effectively. Human mace is also usually stronger than bear mace since we're not as sensitive to it as animals that rely on smell to survive.

i agree, since you mentioned humans i think its important to note that bear and other animals with very strong sense of smell are much more susceptible to capsaicin sprays like this so "bear spray" is almost always much weaker than anything meant to be used on humans. it may give you more distance and volume but pepper spray can be ineffective on determined humans as is, do you really want to risk using a toned down version?

Bear spray doesn’t have the UV marking in it and you can wash it off easier. Decent for bears if you can’t own a gun. Get real stuff for humans so they can be easily identified later.
