I was on the train, Texas Eagle # 21. Our train was delayed for almost 6 hours because the “missing train” derailed after leaving Chicago, not St Louis. It derailed in between Chicago, Illinois and Joliet, IL. Our train towed the disabled train towards Joliet, Illinois so that it could get off the track. Our train then came back to Joliets station. Amtrak sent charter buses to get the crew and passengers to their destinations. It’s a single track and neither freight or passenger trains could go anywhere until the disabled/derailed train was moved. The Texas Eagle #21 reached the “missing train” around 4:00pm. We finally boarded our train at 8:09. Original departure was 2:47pm. We arrived into St Louis at 12:40am. The Amtrak rep at the station told us it had derailed. Why it didn’t make national news is strange. The fact they are now saying it didn’t derail….is strange. I assume it’s because they don’t want bad publicity.

It didn’t disappear. It has issues and everyone was bussed to chicago. A lot of ppl decided to uber, no train disappeared

No, a train did not disappear, but an Amtrak train from St. Louis to Chicago was disabled when it derailed just outside of Chicago on Sunday, December 1, 2025. The train's wheels went off the tracks, but no injuries were reported, and passengers were bused to their final destination.

It came off the track, but unlike most derailments it didn’t flip on its side and no one was injured. They were bused the last 15 miles
