that's northern Virginia, Country Roads" by John Denver was inspired by a drive on Clopper Road in Montgomery County, Maryland. Songwriters Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert were driving to a family reunion in Gaithersburg, Maryland, when the scenery inspired the song, though they later changed the lyrics to feature West Virginia because "Maryland" didn't fit the meter and there were no other poetic phrases to rhyme with it. just Virginia just didn't sound any good.
