@tarynmurraymd: Dermatosis papulosa nigra (DPNs) are a harmless skin growth, basically a variant of another benign growth called a seborrheic keratosis. But DPNs are more common in darker skin tones. They’re totally benign, so no treatment is required. But if you want them removed for cosmetic purposes, we typically use electrocautery, or snip them off. Treatment must be done carefully to avoid pigmentation changes. If they are treated too deeply you can end up with flat light spots instead of raised dark spots. It can be helpful to start with test spots first to make sure you like how they look once it heals. DPN are totally harmless but treatable if they bother you. See a board certified dermatologist to discuss removal. Drop your questions 👇🏻 #skin #dpn #dermatologist #glowingskin #brownspots
