The green slime (deicing mix) helps melt ice and prevents further icing while taxiing/waiting, the airplane's own anti-icing handles it during flight. The plane's systems focus on leading edges only, since that's mainly where ice buildup happens while at cruise speed (unlike when it's sitting still).
