Definitely do what he says and don’t listen to the comments. That putty will get absorbed by the material on the wall. Priming not only creates the seal against any porous material but also helps with the adhesion part. Reseal with primer so that the paint is also not absorbed by the putty, which will dry and become porous as well. Then paint. I learned by trial and error. His way is the right way. Just don’t wrap yourself lol.

Just sand, use texture spray, and then paint. Other steps unneeded

Thank you! My husband and I are currently DIY remodeling our bathroom and we're in the mudding/ sanding phase and there are a ton of spots on the walls we didn't replace where the paint did this and I have been PANICKING trying to figure out how to fix them!
