@jagannathanneurosurgery: Narcolepsy is one of the most under-recognized neurological disorders I see — and the people who suffer from it often spend years being dismissed. Here’s what I wish more patients knew: 1. Daytime sleepiness that feels “uncontrollable” is not normal If you’re fighting to stay awake during conversations, at work, or even while eating… that’s not typical fatigue — it’s a red flag. 2. Sudden muscle weakness with emotions matters Knees buckling when laughing, jaw going slack when surprised, hands dropping objects during excitement — these episodes are classic clues (and many people never report them). 3. Rest doesn’t fix narcolepsy People with narcolepsy can sleep 8–10 hours and still wake up exhausted. It’s because the brain can’t maintain stable wakefulness — not because they’re “not trying hard enough.” 4. Memory issues, irritability, and brain fog are part of the disorder Narcolepsy affects cognitive function, not just sleep. If you feel like your mind “shuts off” during the day, that’s meaningful. 5. Diagnosis is often delayed — but it shouldn’t be A sleep study, done at the right center, can give clarity faster than people think. And treatment can dramatically improve quality of life. Narcolepsy isn’t about being tired. It’s about a brain that’s overloaded, under-signaled, and fighting to stay awake. If these symptoms sound familiar — for you or someone you love — don’t ignore them. A real evaluation can change someone’s life trajectory. #fyp #trending #neurosurgeon #healthtrends #BrainHealth

John Lambert446 :
I thought I couldn't possibly have narcolepsy despite daily naps and soporific episodes because I didn't have the cataplexy. Then I was watching a Theo Von special and suddenly lost full control of my upper body. I have had a few since, but luckily things seem to be stabilizing.

I'm med free. the "affordable meds" caused too many scary side effects. props to you for functioning so well! I'm a sahm who needs and wants to earn income but can't manage my health well enough to do so. fully awake times are joyous though, yaknow?
