It makes sense that tea made by boiling pears would be soothing for a sore throat. Pears have lots of pectin and pectin is an ingredient in many cough drops and sore throat lozenges.

You can also just eat the pear independently, and drink hot/warm water throughout the day. Another thing I learned from my TCM Doc located in Shanghai, any white fruit or vegetable is good for the lungs during cold seasons, or in general if you usually have respiratory problems.
