I always thought of people locked up as unfortunate and not very smart/capable of mastering the statistics of convictions and circumstance. Otherwise they wouldn’t be there.

Unfortunately, the average person that has never had to deal with anybody being incarcerated, especially in prison, believes that if somebody is in prison for a extremely lengthy time that they are obviously a “bad“ person. I think that for some odd reason people think that if you’ve done something wrong, you automatically get to have no rights in any way or no autonomy any longer. It’s just a very weird conversation that I end up having with a lot of different people that fully do not grasp the depth of everything. The average person I don’t believe has the emotional intelligence to understand situations that lead people to where they are. The average person does not understand the fact that they themselves could be sitting in prison for a very lengthy period of time. I don’t believe that people truly understand the deep rooted deception that our justice system Thrives on. Unfortunately, I think that our society is filled with stigmas and stereotypes that keep us in this unfortunate position. Most people don’t fully understand at all I don’t think
