This is still very surreal for me. Kevin Smith talks about how a quick question I asked Ben Affleck, helped them reunite after not speaking for almost 10-years. Not only did Kevin and Ben reunite, it led to Kevin writing a monologue for Jay & Silent Bob Reboot that brought a full circle sequel to Chasing Amy. Honored to have been a tiny part of that. When it’s all said and done, it comes down to Kevin’s writing. For context, in 2019, Kevin Smith was already in production on Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. He was filming in New Orleans. Around this exact time, I was sitting down with Ben Affleck for a new Netflix film called Triple Frontier. I knew Kevin was filming and I was just genuinely curious if Ben would be in the film. This was normal for me, as anytime I’d sit down with Ben Affleck or Matt Damon, I’d always bring up Jay and Silent Bob and Good Will Hunting 2. At this point, I didn’t know Kevin and Ben had spoken in almost 8-years. If I had known that, I probably wouldn’t have asked. Right as the interview was starting, I just quickly asked if he was going to be in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, considering Kevin was filming at that time. He responded saying that no one had called him yet but seemed into the idea of showing up for it. I posted the full interview online, not knowing it would eventually get to Kevin Smith with less than a week left in production. Kevin and Ben got on the phone, reunited and then Kevin wrote this last-minute monologue for the film where Ben returns as Holden McNeil, along with Joey Lauren Adams as Amy, to essentially do a Chasing Amy sequel. It’s one of my favorite monologues Kevin has ever written. Ben flew to New Orleans on the last week of the production and filmed the scene. 🎙️🎙️🎙️ Clip from my “On Film…With Kevin McCarthy” podcast.
