@jeeves_ny: Corduroy’s been around since ancient Egypt, found its swagger in the eighteenth century, and never really left the party. Despite the myth, its name is not a French phrase (corde du roi); it comes from “cord” for the ridges and “duroy,” an old English wool cloth. Those vertical wales are just tiny upright fibers, velvet’s rugged cousin, which is why the stuff feels so lush. By the eighteenth century it turned into the working man’s armor. Miners, factory workers, builders; they all relied on it because it was warm, tough, and could take a serious beating. I’ve always loved corduroy, so sharing the backstory feels like giving it the respect it deserves. #Corduroy #FabricHistory #Fashion

I have a question that has nothing to do with corduroy. How do you clean water repellent rain jackets?

I love it and I love corduroy. Also I just managed to find three pairs of corduroy pants that are soft and wonderful for the first time since the 70s and now I want more. I just don’t know where to look.

Corduroy was part of my school uniform so now I can’t wear it because the sense memory is too strong.

I have several heavy corduroy shirts that I wear to my job sites. In cool/cold weather, I can go inside & out without taking them off. Keeps me comfortable in either environment. Plus they have lots of pockets.

I love corduroy too.
Wide wale trousers are my favourites. With big pockets.
I'm looking, always looking, for cord cargos cuz that would be pocket heaven.

I wish modern corduroy was as durable. I used to sew a lot of my own clothes but the fabric that I can get now at the fabric store just doesn't have the quality to last.
