@melissadivaristhompson: Most people think their relationship struggles are about communication… but it’s really about emotional regulation. When you can slow yourself down, name what’s happening inside you, and come back to your partner with clarity instead of chaos—everything changes. Two regulated people don’t equal zero conflict. They equal conflict that brings you closer. Want tools to build this? Link in bio.✨ #f#fypf#foryouf#foryoupagev#viralrelationshipadvice
I thought I’d mastered it, but on reflection it was supression which inevitably turns into resentment 🫠

There’s this problem. When you have done your part. You regulate every time and they don’t. Not that your partner don’t want to. But they just don’t know how to. And they can learn. But it would take years. So, it’ll be exhausting to mother another person when you’re ready to be in relationship but you’re their lesson. That’s why. It’s easier to break up and find someone’s who’s ready. I think, that’s the reason why even a mature person in a relationship still breaks up.

Learning to regulate your emotions when you’re triggered is HARD. It’s painful. It’s humiliating. As soon as the blow up happens because you’re so deep into your own thoughts, it’s not until the aftermath that makes a person who lives with anxious attachment suddenly feel so ashamed. It’s when you stop dead in your tracks and actually realize the facts you’re assuming are actually your fears shining its ugly self, and it makes you feel so numb. I am currently in the middle of healing this and some days are easy, but most days are extremely hard and it leaves you feeling as if there is something wrong with you. 😞

I feel I can do the emotional regulation but I feel that my partner lacks the ability to take accountability. That’s where I get frustrated.

I have worked so hard at this and failed just last night. I call it stepping outside my skin. It's such ugly behavior but when I am in it, I feel out of control and can't seem to get regulated. Afterwards I feel so ashamed and ridiculous.

👏 this is so validating for me. My husband and I are on year 20 of our (very happy) relationship and I credit all of that to emotional regulation

Emotional regulation is very important in a relationship. If you aren't able to have this, you will always blow up and even create unnecessary arguments. Having this helps to make connections easier in this relationship. I got you
