@maisonrickie: Addressing two topics in one video 👏 1. “Gatekeeping happens in every social circle. This is not unique to the elite.” 2. Why these games matter. I’m having a really fun time with these videos and I hope you’re getting value out of them! Please let me know what you think in the comments ☺️
Calling them elite at this point in history is wild there's nothing elite about any of these people...

Yes, when I’m around rich or even upper middle class they will casually ask if I’m spending the week skiing or if I want to join them in Cyprus…. I’m living paycheck to paycheck ma. 😅 That’s their subtle way of checking. And upper middle class will also try to casually ask about your leisure plans so they can clock how to treat you.

this is also why the kids from “high society elites” can afford to study topics like art history or anthropology in uni, because they don’t need to get a high paying job later. meanwhile most of us choose our degree based on expected salary, instead of passion unfortunately.

Interesting perspective from a psychologist friend: many elites struggle with depression and anxiety because they’ve never had to build purpose—everything was handed to them. It breeds emotional emptiness, even narcissism. Rinse and repeat 🔁.
My advice? Make your money, thrive, and be grateful for the obstacles that shaped you.

why does it matter? why do you want to hang out with them anyway? I'm so content with my little cottage and chickens on my little plot. I will be soo exhausted trying to just keep up with all this stuff..I'm a simple African woman .❤

This! I see this everyday. Rich kids have access to a whole different kind of knowledge, network and relatipnships that open them doors in the blink of an eye. I might know a broader variety of topics because of my curiosity, but it's not the right kind of knowledge they know and share with eachother. You will never fit in.

This is truth. I grew up as a minority going to elite private schools. My children now as well. It’s not enough to go to these schools. One is on the outside while the elite are in their country clubs etc…but, I am a true believer of the education. It still can open some doors but will never open all doors.

Old money kids don’t necessarily make $800K. They make $80K in an NGO job or be a public servant and rely on a trust fund.

In my dad's side of the family there are many old money rich people and believe me, even if you are educated and they are being nice to you, you do feel absolutelly out of place. They speak a different languaje.

People in Australia often debate the benefits of elite private schools citing that educational outcomes are not better and I’m like ‘yah that’s not why people send their children there’

none of these experiences are important in here grande scheme of things we have grown to love wealth more than existence... it's a sad state.of mind kind ... lusting over this provides them more power as we find ourselves addictive to a abusive culture

Honestly, my experience is simply that if you’re confident, know decent etiquette, dress well and you ask with genuine curiosity “what’s that?” the vast majority will be not only willing but HAPPY to tell you. They’ll love getting to show off the knowledge, and you’ll only have to ask once…
