This feels like a lot of work and a lot of stress to put on yourself before Christmas 😬 also just wasted money if it doesn’t go to plan and you hate it so maybe just buy secondhand

boards shrink , buy them early, bring them inside allow them to adjust to climate, before you begin you DIY.

I think you can do it - but you might want to check FB Marketplace and other second hand sources. You might find something super close to that for much cheaper and you won’t have to spend as much time on it. But if you want to do the DIY - go for it!

If you make the table fine don’t do a bench it looks nice but it’s a pain. Chairs work better in the long run.

anya I am nearly always 100% pro diy esp w woodworking. However consider that if the boards warp over time (very possible if you dont let them dry for at least a couple months) then you'll forever have spots on your table where the crumbs will fall and you'll never be able to clean!

Sounds lush but I have found that a lot of these online projects seem easier/look better than they actually are in reality. Just be prepared for that

Since you don't have the time to make sure the boards are properly dry and you don't really have any experience with wood working, I'm afraid that this will fail. It sounds so simple, but it really isn't.

honestly do it, it’s your house first time why not experiment, it could turn out amazingly and look great but then (based off ur past experiences 😭) it might not go good in the long run so it’s definitely worth starting like an emergency just in case fund for like all these diys just in case they need to be replaced

Just remember that you’re doing it for the first time and no one is a master at first try at anything. So expect it to be difficult and expect things to go wrong and that’s alright. Just keep going until you get it right. Don’t be afraid to fail. It’s just a lesson and next time you’ll do it better if it doesn’t work out now. Don’t take life so seriously ♥️Honestly though, I think it’s a great idea and totally doable! You got this queen!

Do it ! Mine cost me 4k with matching bench. I love it but I wish I trusted myself to make it myself. Too scared to ruin it I plastic wrap it 😅😅

I'd say its a good project to try maybe in the new year, but since you have a lot to do and Xmas is only a few weeks away, I'd get a second hand one on Facebook for cheap, get a nice table cloth and chair covers and do that for this year. Feel like you'll be putting too much pressure on yourself otherwise x

the hardest part of a DIY table is making sure the top is completely flat and the planks are tightly joined together, otherwise plates won't lay flat, crumbs will live in the cracks, etc. to make it right, you need a planer and a jointer. it might be easier to buy a thick sheet of plywood for the top rather than planking?

Anita Taylor452 :
For the cost of scaffold boards you could just get a second hand one or u could just get a decorators table and some fold up chairs (I got 4 fold up chairs for £30 just to use for Xmas) and then u. A get the table u want when u. An afford it , save yourself the time and effort
