I’m criminally early…and also also anyone who doesn’t see the OVERTLY political undertones alllll over Wicked, all of which is painfully still relevant, then it’s clear the Wizard was right. They don’t believe in the truth because they just don’t want to…

Good choice. The book and the Musical should be considered two totally separate works. More than any other adaptation, ever.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz original book series is so good. Literally DND worthy story material; I’m convinced whoever designed the Witch Light campaign was heavily inspired by the OG series.

Also interesting fact I learned recently: Baum himself never said this is what it was, scholars are just kinda guessing based on that interpretation aligning with his personal politics and there are even some dissenters to the theory as a whole

Inspite being a notorious racist, L. Frank Baum’s mother-in-law was suffragette Matilda Jocelyn Gage, who notoriously didn’t like him. Some people say that the Wicked Witch of the West was based off her

I prefer the book depictions, Nessa in the books can be terrible & her penguin walk would be bizarre to watch (closest freaky effect I can think of is the Mars Attack! alien woman scene- Nessa gives people the uncanny valley effect in a creepy way); I don’t understand why do they always have white guys playing Fiyero… 🥲 also: where are the diamonds on his skin? The ending in the book is better! 😏

dont forget the poppy field is a direct nod to the Opium Wars where the Brits flooded the chinese markets with Opium derived from the poppy plant in order to get back the silver they had traded for textiles & tea.

I was taught in a Native American studies class in college that the flying monkeys represented the Natives Americans. In the end when they said they’ve had their time, it was meaning that the time of the Native Americans in the US was over. It was time for the natives to step aside and the (white) “Americans” to take over.

Remember you need green coloured goggles to walk within the Emerald City which makes all the Emerald Green look Whitewashed! Also they skip over the best characters Tippetarius (Tip) / Ozma… he technically wrote a trans 🏳️⚧️character & made her the protagonist of all the books 😉😉😉

This is all so fascinating. Also add that even if he denies his intent in his art, literary theorists believe that works can be signaling messages that the artist themself is unaware of or even deny.

Do Glenda and the wicked witch represent something or someone in Wizard of Oz. The Wizard of oz isn’t really connect to wicked right - like they’re two different universes w their own cannon just the characters and places are similar?
