For me I would say it's the other way around. Having a SpongeBob merch (bedsheets, apparel) means that SpongeBob exists in-game and that takes me out of the game. Those items have very little function outside of kids rooms. But having new doors, windows and such with a nautical/repurposed look could be used in some funky builds, not just a room for a specific sim. I'm not getting any of them anyway. They're too expensive for mediocre quality.

I understand why everyone’s (justifiably) upset about this but I also wonder how far in advance the Sims had an agreement with Nickelodeon to release this pack. Yes, it’s bad optics now but I imagine the agreement was somewhat legally binding given that it’s probably promo for the new SpongeBob movie coming out. Not excusing anything (I hope) just my thoughts.
