@clarkrecommends: “Feldon Valley Lodge Review: TikTok Lied to Me 😭💀” My wife and I recently stayed at Feldon Valley Lodge. We genuinely enjoyed spending time together, but the lodge itself didn’t live up to what we saw online. TikTok made it look like a luxury escape, and the reality just didn’t match the expectation. A lot of people online said it’s only about 20 minutes from Bicester Village. Google Maps shows it’s closer to 50 minutes, so that already felt misleading before we even arrived. If you’re someone who wants to switch off from technology, slow down, set goals or play board games, this place definitely forces you into that mindset. But if you want that as well as proper hotel facilities, this probably isn’t the right choice. For the price we paid (£180–£300 a night), the missing basics were surprising. There’s no TV, no spa, no sauna, no steam room, no iron, no fridge and not even a bin in the room. If the whole idea is to remove tech, that’s fine, but there should be something to make up for it. The room itself felt very simple. The towels were clean but looked worn, more like something you’d find in a small B&B. The refillable water bottle wasn’t sealed, so I had no idea where we were supposed to fill it. The cookies in the jar were already open, which didn’t feel hygienic, and the bathroom was very plain. Entertainment-wise, there wasn’t much to do. I overheard other guests saying things like, “What did we even pay for?” One said they’d scream if they stayed another night, and someone else said they would go mad from boredom. I honestly understood where they were coming from. The gym only fits two people at a time and you have to book a slot. If you want to watch TV, you need to sit in the lobby, which felt more like a waiting area than a relaxing space. They do have outdoor fireplaces, which could be great, but if someone else is already sitting there, you just end up waiting around. On the positive side, breakfast was very good and dinner was decent. Just be aware that Uber Eats doesn’t deliver here, and if you’re arriving around sunset, the surrounding country roads are extremely dark with no streetlights. Overall, I’d give it a 5 out of 10. I loved spending time with my wife, but the lodge itself didn’t justify the price. If you’re looking for a getaway that actually offers value for money, modern facilities and a more complete experience, I’d recommend The Nici Hotel in Bournemouth or The Cave Hotel in Faversham. Both have given me far better stays for similar prices. @feldonvalley
