When I do an accessible vehicle like that for an annual inspection, it must function as it has been modified to operate as intended by certified CMSS rebuilders. It fails unfortunately

Side ramp on many vans is manual. Others are power like yours. Simply disconnect the motor from the ramp and then problem solved. Drop ramp by hand. Lift back up to close it.

As a mechanic I would fail it , yes it’s an add on for a specific function of access for someone in a wheel chair, as long as it’s being used for that specific function it’s a fail , if van is now private and converted back to passenger with no special needs & unit is removed then it’s a pass,

I was just thinking, there is sometimes a switch inside to activate the ramp, some will automatically come out, and sometimes you need to use inside switch, and also sometimes there is a switch to turn ramp on or off. Also if the power is disabled in an emergency than you need to use it manually anyways.

I would go to princess auto. Get a hydraulic control stick (corded). Wire direct to the ramp motor. $70 plus time.

Who makes the lift? Contact them to see if they have a solution. I think there is a place in London that sells and installs lifts.

🙄Not everyone who buys a used vehicle with a wheelchair ramp is in a wheelchair. Some people who do cargo buy them for easier loading.🤷♂️

If it comes equipped it should work technically, take the ramp out and sell it as a non accessible vehicle

All installed equipment must be functional according to DOT, whether it's a safety issue or not. I'd fix or uninstall to be compliant and to protect myself. ✌️

That's a tricky one. Technically if everything else is good would be a pass if a private vehicle no wheel chair use..But if intentions are for wheel chair use its a failure... in my opinion

It’s a fail . No different than inside handles windows not working . Trapped person in vehicle can’t get out . Would be a fail at my shop

Well as we spoke the other night. Basically Only things on that check list that has to be working or safe . If it not on check list it’s not part of the safety . Makes no sense but it’s just basic minimal items to pass .

Fix it! 🧑🏼🔧Troubleshoot the problem! Call the Manufacturer ans the Company that installed the Unit! I'm sure someone would be willing to help you out!?

I service accessible vehicles, for a basic safety it would be a note and pass. if they are safetying for commercial as a taxi or transport service it does have classification for accessible vehicles with extra criteria.

that passes all day long... they make ramps that are manual and would operate in the same manner. I have a wheelchair bound person in my family who is not capable of even operating a power ramp. under the logic that a person cannot get out, does the power ramp also fail?

I think I'd fail it. if they are buying it for the wheelchair function, you'd need it to function as expected when needed. there is a pile of non wheelchair accessible Caravans for sale if they don't need that option
