@vinaigrettes_: To be honest, growing up middle class i had NO fcking idea how violent poverty is. we need to imagine new collective realities bc this is hell. we as humans can and must do better. #work #payday #historytok #us
It destabilizes the nervous system and keeps people small.

I will die on this hill. The emotional toll it takes is next level. It took me years to heal from being poor.

The fact of the matter is the “middle class” in America is on the verge of extinction and the flood gates of people entering the struggle just to get by tip toeing poverty and homelessness at any given missed paycheck or unexpected financial burden working over time or two jobs just to make ends meet while the 1 % keeps getting ritcher. The system isn’t just broken, it’s a failure of social and economic mean’s that realistically and unfortunately will not be addressed until it begins it affect the income and business of the 1% everyone else will just have to deal with this until then or realize the power of the masses to do something about it.

Told my landlord in October that there was a rodent infestation in the unit, he intentionally neglected doing anything about it and instead contacted my old landlord to see if there was any problems with my last rental. He also contacted his old tenant to prove there wasn’t mice last year. It’s been six weeks now and hundreds of dollars worth of my belongings have been destroyed-he told me my renters insurance was going to cover it, but they won’t cover it because the items are damaged due to landlord neglect . So now I just exist in my small room bc the other rooms are unusable.

Even worse, the middle class is sliding toward poverty faster than the rich are buying new yachts.

people don't have empathy for lower income people. I'm middle class and most of the other middle people I know don't have any sympathy for people making middle wage

The person who coined that “money doesn’t buy happiness “ was gaslighting. Of course it doesn’t stop ALL bad things from happening but 1) it’s stops a lot of them and 2) if they do happen you can deal with them without the added stress of not having money

also a lot of people who think they escaped poverty, technically haven't. there is no real middle class anymore. just people who are privileged enough to not be one or two checks away from homelessness.

I worked two jobs while living in an extended stay to get out of poverty. It sucks but it doesn't have to be forever.

A lot of the middle class works endlessly to stay middle class. The amount of work people put in does not go up the poorer you get. Millions of people receiving benefits don’t work at all.

I think we, being middle class, know of it, but don't believe it, because it would make some small purchases we have a habit of making super petty. it's like we've been brainwashed to buy
