@_techwithai: An EV owner in China tried to hack “infinite charging” by mounting four wind turbines on the roof of his car and plugging them into the charging port while driving. The idea was to use the wind created while driving to generate electricity. But here’s the problem. Those turbines don’t spin for free. To generate power, they have to push back against the air, which creates extra drag. And the car’s battery has to burn even more power just to keep the vehicle moving through that resistance. The clip went viral, and authorities confirmed the modification is illegal due to safety rules and extreme inefficiency. #ev #engineering #innovation #technology #technews
If they allow it to stay, vehicle owners will pay less on charging.

with a better design that has less drag you could extend your range but not indefinitely

you know how much kw you need to charge a car battery? this fans probably arent producing more than 300w

@ENTIRAN: Its become more problem due the fans will makes slow the car by the wind pressure and take more power or fuel to moving comparing a normal Car 🗿

they need a body there's no control of the air going through the fans wide open it's no different than a turbine on an airplane it's got to be covered to create power💯

what if.. he is using the EV power to spin the turbine for extra thrust?? not charging it?

This won’t work. The problem is simple physics:
Those turbines would create a lot of drag.
The energy to spin them would ultimately come from your car pushing through the air.
That means your motor would work harder, burning more energy than the turbines could ever recover.
With real-world losses (aero drag + generator losses + charging losses), you’d end up worse off, not better.
It’s like trying to power a boat by sticking a water wheel in the same water the engine is already pushing through.
The only scenario where wind generation makes sense is:
car parked in a genuinely windy spot, with a properly mounted turbine sized for stationary use
Even then, it would be slow trickle charging, not anything dramatic.
So… cool-looking, TikTok-friendly, but as a practical charging solution? Nah.
