There are no metal cords in the sidewall of a tire. Do not plug the sidewall. You really shouldn’t even plug the shoulder of a tire.

I wouldn't suggest to use them on the firewall but if it can save a tow bill or a headache of changing to a spare tire I think it's a decent idea
