i dont trust anyone who says new tires on the rear. new tires always go on steer tires.

BRAPPPP :
AWD you need to do all 4 because the rolling diameter all around is very important to be within spec

New tires on the rear always. I’ve always explained it as you want the best grip where the vehicle has the least weight so you have better control since the front obviously has the weight of the engine. I figure it’s simple enough to understand for anyone even if you’re not car savvy

Yup ill never own an awd car again. So tired of buying full sets of tires or risking the transfer case ending itself. Either way its $$$$

Wrench Wizard :
new tires should be placed where the vehicle applies power. AWDs can be biases to front or rear. AWD vehicles should have 4 new tires, but it all depends on wear of the tires. having different tread depths can cause the AWD system to believe there is a problem causing over compensation, which leads to excessive wear or failures in the difs or Tcase

nah, you either change 2 or all 4 no matter what, never put a mismatched tire on the same axle

Airplane mechanic here so maybe I’m wrong. Don’t tires go under the car not in the front or rear of the vehicle?

In the real world you want new tires up front. Most tread should always be up front where the weight is at and to give you the most traction

new tires go in the front, i rather drift my way through the curve than under steer and end up in the front of a truck

Ever think of people with staggered wheels on a RWD car. You really think I’m gonna run a 275 on the front and 245 on the rear??

false you don't have to change all 4 if you have 3 tires at 8 or 9/32nd that's totally fine cause most car or SUV tires don't have more than a 10/32nd tread

I remember back in the day when tire techs were proud of their craft and we could still fix sidewalls without fear of bad/incompetent workers causing liability.
