There’s a fine line between “self respect” and being triggered from past wounds and mistaking it for what the new person is doing

When you have self-respect, you naturally respect others too. By being clear about your boundaries and letting people know how to love you well.

Psychology shows that when your nervous system is dysregulated, your brain doesn’t think rationally, it survives. It defaults to the trauma response: fight, flight, freeze, or fawn. That’s why fear takes over. That’s why avoidance feels safer than change. You’re not broken. Your body is just stuck in protection mode. Most of us keep doomscrolling, waiting for one more healing tip or viral video to finally make it click. But that’s not healing. That’s self-soothing through distraction. You can’t rewire pain while avoiding it. Real healing starts when u start facing what your nervous system is trying to tell you. It’s raw. It’s uncomfortable. It’s the moment your brain screams “don’t go there” and you go there anyway. Facing this truth hurts, but it’s the only way to actually get better. If this resonates with you, read Healing Isn’t Pretty by Mira Hartson. It goes deeper than any short video ever could and shows you how to calm your nervous system, break your trauma loops, and finally feel like yourself again.

No one worth losing yourself for. NO ONE. I had to crawl out of the situation to find myself back. But i did it, and its the best thing ive done for myself.

I remember saying no to a person i loved but i clearly saw that they took all of my energy and made me feel so small and never loved me back so i walked away from it and o my god. Thats the best decision i have ever made in life. I always wanna be in control

I do have self respect for myself, but it can be very complicated, especially if you have empathy. for example there is this girl that i have known for a year. and slowly i started to warm up to her and trust her with many things that go on with my life. but as time went on, many things started to show (her true colors) and it feels like a mix of jealousy and secret hatred, towards me, and until now i still don’t know how to drop her, and im still overly nice to her, but when i do get distant she starts sending me paragraphs saying how im a bad friend. so it’s hard to drop the person, esp if u have showed them that you will help them go through anything, they will be putting you through everything in the end.

Living life after 50 :
Self-respect hits different when you finally learn to hold strong boundaries… choosing peace over people… preferring to be alone rather than feeling lonely… knowing when to leave the table when love, honesty, and respect are no longer being served — and never apologising for protecting your energy

Loneliness isn’t always a bad thing. People having hard times with friendships do need a break to not be affected emotionally and to not get traumatized and/or heartbroken. I took it as a way of spending time on thinking about what I did and what needs to be done, while at the same time, by learning from other people such as family members and friends of parents, a person can accomplish a hurdle at a time to learn to be more self reliant, dedicated, and more dependable. Through this, a person can get to understand people better, especially if they are a person that tends to observe people to make sure they are making a safe, secure and lasting friendship to avoid such incidents repeating again.

Dw you’re not disappointing anyone if they never cared about you in the first place. I think more people need to realise that
