This sounds insightful until you slow it down. “They don’t fix what hurts you” quietly turns love into a repair contract. Who decides what needs fixing? Who defines the hurt? And who’s responsible for healing it? The moment love is measured by effort toward your pain, it stops being love and becomes management. “Love without effort is an illusion” is where the ego sneaks in. Real love doesn’t require constant fixing because it doesn’t assume something is broken. Effort belongs to control, negotiation, and outcomes — not love itself. When effort becomes the proof, love gets hijacked by expectations: do this, change that, show me you care this way. And notice how responsibility gets outsourced. Instead of asking, “Why does this hurt me?” the demand becomes, “Why aren’t you fixing it?” That keeps the story intact and the grievance alive. Comfort may be real. Love may be real. But confusing love with obligation turns intimacy into labor. So the real question is: if love requires someone else to repair your inner wounds, what exactly is being loved — the person, or the role you need them to play?

SO TAKE AWAY THE COMFORT!!!! It was so hard because I love so freaking hard but I had to do this with my kids and with a partner when they mistreated me. You will get lonely at times but stand firm on your standards and boundaries. Be proud that you would rather have the truth of love rather than a lie of love. You’re welcome.
