@katimorton: Going no contact with a parent isn’t a trend. It’s something that is done because it’s too painful to continue the relationship. And it’s often one of the hardest decisions we make. 💛 #oprahnocontacttrend #oprahnocontact #oprah #narcissisticabuse
Calling it a trend is deeply dismisses of decades of pain. It’s a last resort decision.

The thing a lot of people don’t realize is that it’s almost like grieving for someone who is still alive.

If Oprah were serious about this subject she would do a deep dive into narcissism, generational trauma, and cycle breaking.

As a society we switched from blind respect to elders to yeah no respect is mutual. Our parents still have that blind respect for thier parents and we don’t. They can’t understand that. The “trend” of holding people, including family, responsible for thier actions is now the new normal. It’s not a trend it’s reality.

Saying that it's a "trend".....is a slap in our faces that chooses to be no contact with our parents or siblings because of our real trauma and been heartbroken for years.

It’s death by a thousand cuts. I don’t deserve to be treated bad. I didn’t know other people did it too until it happened to me.

I mean it kinda is a trend people are using it just because they don’t wanna deal with anything when in reality it should be a last ditch effort

Unfortunately, I do think it is a trend. However, that does not mean that there are people that should not no contact. There are many situations where like you said no contact is really the only option for your own mental sanity, but because it is being so widely talked about. I think there are people jumping onand going no contact when it really isn’t necessary and that has made it become a trend

It’s so weird that being part of a clear trend is so triggering.

Thank you for this video! It took me a really long time to finally decide to go no contact with my estranged parent. And I still struggle with it because it’s meant not going to any family gatherings anymore because of it. It’s been really painful.

Speaking out about no contact is a trend—not no contact itself. It was just called estrangement before

Not being in contact is usually the last resort, and it's very sad to end a relationship with a parent or relative.

Let me tell you as someone who’s been down this path, this is the last thing I ever wanted and I avoided this outcome for over a decade at incredible detriment to my health and wellbeing.

No/Low Contact since 2020. I love my parents. I know that my mom grew up with worse abuse than I did and I can forgive her for her mistakes and ignorance. I can and will give her the grace for changing times and the knowledge we have gained that she did not have. But I love my daughter and my future descendants more. I want to break the cycle that started before her and she doesn’t understand how that is too difficult with my her in my life unhealed as my own kryotonite. We are toxic for each other and I don’t want to be the person I am when she is an influence in my life, because I don’t like how it affects my child. I hope one day I can be strong enough for all of us, but right now, I have to focus on my own priorities and responsibility.

Of course there is the typical case that you are describing, where people are driven to go no-contact given their personal circumstances. However, the spotlight on it at the moment, and on a big a platform as Oprah, is DEFINITELY a trend. This immediately creates a secondary effect where people go no-contact not as a last resort, but because it has adversely turned it into a typical response. The same way there are and always have been trans individuals, but the way gender identity has been politicized, weaponized and medicalized is a trend - and has even irreversibly ruined the lives of certain individuals, as has been documented.
