@brihill_: Reposting the video that started it all & thank you for all the messages/comments I receive, you have made it worth it. I see you & you got this 💪🏼 #ptsd #ptsdawareness #firefighter #firstrespondermentalhealth #paramedic
@Ron Briles:I ended up retiring due to this. it wrecked my entire life, at work and home. I was still on the job and realized it was affecting my every day life. I've been out 5 years now and have been in theropy for about 8 years and I still struggle with the past, the triggers. if you are in this situation do not try and deal with it on your own, you need the help someone that can help you with how to deal with those triggers. Someone that can help you realize who you are. PTSD affects everyone differently, don't ever think you are weak.

I recently retired after 28 years… feeling all the same. Loss of identity loss of purpose. Was a master at something now I’m starting over.

I had to stop and come back more than once. This hit a little too close.

As a Military vet, I understand what you're saying. Still feel the weight of the body armor. I retired. Still feel the weight of the job.

I am here to say that you are not alone. Thank you for sharing your vulnerability. I was an ER nurse for 17 years and a flight nurse for 5 years. The adjustment from the constant adrenaline is no joke. It is a constant and lonely battle.

I'm prior active duty then transitioned to critical care nursing in 2018 just before COVID. Personally, the trauma is so much worse on the civillian side. Out here, we're disposable business expenses. Honestly, in the service we cared about each other.

my biggest fear about being a firefighter is the day I have to leave.

Like you have stayed before. It seems like I've lost my ID, my purpose. I've done this for over 30 years. And what hurts even more, I'm a forgotten name at the fire house now. One day you go from being the go to person to being just another civilian.

I am an Iraq Wsr Vet 2003 - 2004. I am rated at 100% Total & Permanent disability for PTSD. I don’t miss the war I miss being part of something far bigger than myself and so much more. Yes, it’s the loss of identity. It’s the silence. Hang in there. We got your six. HOOAH

Structural dissociation, moral injury, institutional betrayal-they pile up. PTSD is an injury and if it’s addressed properly you can stabilize and recover. You are taking care of you and that’s exactly what you deserve to be able to do.
