@sewingnapoleon: The stitching on this 1902 waist cincher is not perfect. Does that mean it’s bad? NO! Too often I see beginners sewists give up because their stitching isn’t “perfect”. Here is a close-up of a corset from @historycolorado to show that Victorian seamstresses weren’t perfect, either. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about growing as you learn your craft. Hang in there, my aspiring corsetiere! #historicalsewing #1902corset #howtosew #corsetsewingtips #howtosewacorset

They just liked them tiny. Like I can’t imagine how upset they were if they had to rip their work

And anyone who’s seen a Worth gown or any classic couture gown up close knows, they were cutting corners and piecing and doing all sort of things. Nothing is perfect.

Unless your seams are sewing up a spacesuit, I don't care how pretty they are.I am just impressed that you made something that I can't...

Practiced stitches after years of sewing should be expected to look incredibly skilled to us who have a fraction of their experience, but that doesn’t mean they were magic 🪄 nor are we just worse humans. The consequence of automating the practice is that very few of us are practiced anymore.

the inside of any garment looked delapitated before they started intentionally making linings, like even couture gowns were like this

How is it supposed to look like if done the right way? I know nothing about stitches, I'm really curious.
