Yeah they do not take good care of these jets, take it from a prior aviation Ordnanceman. We typically had 8-12 down for maintenance onboard our carrier when I was in at any given time deployed. The transpo plane we used to taking people on/off the carrier (I forget its nomenclature) wing actually fell off right before they launched off the flight deck. Thankfully it was aborted. It was the CMCs final day onboard before retirement. That plane sat in the hangar bay with the wing propped on a rack mattress the rest of the deployment.
