Not a book, but Linda Nochlin‘s “Why Have There Been No Great Woman Artists?” is literally the reason I changed my major to art history. That essay literally changed my life.

French here, do you truly get none at all in your "standard" curriculum ? We don't get a dedicated subject but parts of the curricula in both arts and history class all throughout middle and highschool do touch on it, having none at all seems insane.

just for reference if anyone's gonna pick up ways of seeing by berger, it's not quite historically accurate despite claiming to be about history. it is just an essay, take it as an essay and not an authority.
